Zara collects phobias the way other high school girls collect lipsticks. Little wonder, since life’s been pretty rough so far. Her father left, her stepfather just died, and her mother’s pretty much checked out. Now Zara’s living with her grandmother in sleepy, cold Maine so that she stays “safe.” Zara doesn’t think she’s in danger; she thinks her mother can’t deal.
Wrong. Turns out that guy she sees everywhere, the one leaving trails of gold glitter, isn’t a figment of her imagination. He’s a pixie—and not the cute, lovable kind with wings. He’s the kind who has dreadful, uncontrollable needs. And he’s trailing Zara.
With suspense, romance, and paranormal themes, this exciting breakout novel has all the elements to keep teens rapidly turning the pages.
I think the best way to describe this book is quirky. The heroine, Zara, is definitely not one of those super-popular-lipstick-wearing girls and it was so refreshing to read about someone who is not so sure of herself, who counts phobias as a way of dealing with things. She just lost her stepdad and got shipped to a completely different environment but she doesn't have that bad of time adapting since soon enough she has two friends and a really cute boy.
Jones did a great twist on pixies. They're not the cuddly Tinkerbell ones - not that Tinkerbell is cuddly, anyway, but you get my point - they are violent and otherwordly and well, scary as hell. And apparently the worst one of them is stalking Zara.
I really liked Need, the characters are easily lovable, and the plot is refreshing, albeit a little predictable. My favorite scenes were the ones of Nick and Zara, they're so damn cute together! I'm definitely going to be reading the following book, Captivate, in fact I'm reading it right now!
Not right now now as I'm typing this up but ... you get what I mean!

My copy arrived in the mail today! It was on sale on Amazon, couldn't pass it up especially since so many book peeps have said pretty good things about it.
Nice quickie review, I'm glad I decided to buy this one.
Side note I really heart her lip stick.
Only you Wendsie can pull me out of my current m/m read-a-thon and want to pick up a YA book. Is this one better than Shiver?
Donna - Oh, awesome! I hope you like it too, and thanks. :)
K.C. - So do I! Heh, and I'm not sorry! I wouldn't say it's better than Shiver but it's definitely nice competition.
Great review! I have Capttivate sitting on my TBR, I did enjoy Need and the intersting take on pixies too. I should move Captivate up the stack.
Hi, Kathy!
Thank you! I hope you move it up and read Captivate, I finished yesterday and wow... that's all I'm saying. ;)
